Get the facts on the proposed 1% sales tax!
Wythe County Public Schools has worked to maintain its schools and make responsible use of available funding. However, aging facilities and significant capital needs require investments beyond what the division can address through its annual operating budget alone.
Wythe County has identified approximately $72 million in upcoming school-related projects that could be supported by revenue from the proposed 1% local sales and use tax:
$40 million Spiller Elementary School project
$25 million Fort Chiswell High School renovation
Approximately $5 million in athletic field improvements
$2 million in roof and chiller repairs
On Tuesday, November 3, 2026, Wythe County voters will decide whether to authorize the additional 1% local sales and use tax. If approved, revenue would be dedicated to eligible school construction, major renovation, modernization, and related financing costs.
